PETER STEELE PASSED AWAY...
Around noon I heard the first rumours about the death of Peter Steele. His friend Juliya Chernetsky of Fuse TV had spread the news of his passing away on April 14th 2010 via her Twitter page. Now it is confirmed by a message of Josh Silver and Kenny (band members Type O’Negative) on Blabbermouth. The charismatic front man was vocalist/bassist of Brooklyn (New York) übergothers Type O’Negative and had also a rebellious opinion about many things in life. The lyrics of thrash metal act Carnivore and later Type O’Negative were criticized by millions.
His authentic personality was emphasized by his length (two meters) and dark, sensual voice. Type O’Negative got very famous with the album ‘Bloody Kisses’ and the extraordinary video clips for ‘Black No. 1’ and ‘Christian Woman’. His typical way of playing bass and low-pitched voice has been an influence for many musicians. The next album ‘October Rust’ featured the single chart buster ‘My Girlfriend’s Girlfriend’. Their latest album was ironically called ‘Dead Again’, it was released in 2007. Soon after its release, Peter toured with reincarnated Carnivore.
Peter Steele has always been a man with highs and lows. He suffered from depressions from time to time and freed his demons in straight from the heart lyrics. He was 48 years old and he died from heart failure (no further details available yet), but he seemed to be ill a time before his tragic death. Our condolences go to his family, his friends and all the musicians he ever worked with and knew him thoroughly as a man with a special and genuine personality. I experienced him as a warm, debonair person when talking to him.
RIP Peter Steele
