Releases like this doesn’t come out that often, so it’s always joyful when you can enjoy some X-mas songs in metal version. An album like this is also funny when you having a drinking party with friends on Christmas evening so….
Lots of musicians and singers put their heads together to co-operate and record some Christmas classics in their own heavy way. We have: Jeff Scott Soto Lemmy Kilminster, Alice Cooper, Ronnie James Dio, Geoff Tate, Dug Pinnick, Tim Owens, Chuck Billy, Oni Logan, Stephen Pearcy, Joe Lynn Turner, Tommy Shaw, Doro Pesch and Kim Mc Aullife as singers and an impressing list of musicians such as: Bob Kulick, Billy F Gibbons, Billy Sheehan, Vinny Appice, Tony Iommi, Simon Wright, George Lynch Simon Phillips, Steve Morse, Scott Ian, John Tempesta, Craig Goldy, Steve Lukather, Girlschool and some others for the musical parts. With that impressing list you can imagine that there are some really good parts on this album in a wide range of hard rock and Metal styles.
Each vocalist fits perfectly in the song that he’s singing… You get “Santa Claws Is Coming To Town†in a typical Alice Cooper style – “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen†could be on the next Dio album – “Silent Night†with Chuck Billy on vocals and Scott Ian on guitars thrash till the end and Lemmy rocks you al the way to X-mas in “Run Rudolph Runâ€. The most impressing moments (for me personally) are the performances from Dio, Geoff Tate, Tim Owens (Santa Claus Is Back In Town)And also a well done version of Tommy Shaw in “Happy Xmas – War Is Over†, A cover version of the original John Lennon song.
Doro is Doro and besides her German accent you get a sensual rocker of “O Christmas Threeâ€. The songs are written by Bob Kulick & Brett Chassen who also both where responsible for the mix and producing, co produced by Wendy Dio.
Just a funny record to have in your collection and play every year with Christmas.

Uitgaven als deze kom je niet vaak tegen en het is dus wel prettig om van enkele kerst klassiekers te genieten in metal versie. Temeer ook omdat het best leuk kan zijn om een plaat als deze te draaien op een bierfeest onder metalvrienden rond kerstmis.
Een indrukwekkende lijst van vocalisten en muzikanten staken dus de koppen bij elkaar om deze kerstklassiekers op te nemen in hun eigen loodzware versies. Naar mijn smaak komen de meest indrukwekkende momenten van Dio, Geoff Tate, Tim Owens (Santa Claus Is Back In Town), maar ook de knap vertolkte versie van “Happy Xmas – War Is Over†(John Lennon cover) door Tommy Shaw. Doro is Gewoon Doro zoals we gewoon zijn en naast haar Duits accent wordt je toch getrakteerd op een sensuele rocker “O Christmas Threeâ€. Alle nummers werden in deze versie bij elkaar geschreven door Bob Kulick & Brett Chasen welke beide ook verantwoordelijk ijn voor de mix en productie, co productie door Wendy Dio.
Gewoon een leuke schijf om elk jaar opnieuw te draaien rond de kerstdagen.
