New album & single Grimner to come!

Grimner to release new single ‘En Fallen Jätte’ Friday December 15th 2017...!!

Viking folk metal act Grimner release ‘En Fallen Jätte’ the first single off their upcoming ‘Vanadrottning’ album.
‘En Fallen Jätte’ is out Dec 15th 2017 on Despotz Records.

2018 sees Swedish Viking/folk metallers Grimner celebrate their 10th anniversary with the release of a new full-length album ‘Vanadrottning’ (Despotz Records) on February 9th.

First single ‘En Fallen Jätte’ will be released on December 15th and showcases everything that makes Grimner such a unique musical force.
A heavier, more powerful and rhythmic sound, together with a fantastic new voice brought by their latest addition Martin. Expect a dynamic, fresh and thrilling album with the band pushing the boundaries and taking their unique music to a new level.
With ‘Vanadrottning’ and their 10th anniversary celebrations, the Grimner Vikings continue their journey towards new adventures!
‘Vanadrottning’ translates to ‘queen of the Vanir’, referring to the goddess Gullveig from the Norse mythology. She is known mostly from the tale of the war between the Aesir and the Vanir, when she was captured and burned alive by Oden and his herd. Each time they burned her she would be born anew, dying three times and resurrected three times, each time in immense agony. This album has been an absolute joy to create, but like the goddess Gullveig, we have also endured a great deal of pain for it. We hope you will love the album as much as we ourselves do!’ // Grimner

Swedish Vikings Grimner give a unique mixture of folk and metal, incorporating catchy melodies, folk instruments and heavy riffs into their own, yet aggressive metal. With their dynamic and captivating music, with lyrics sung in Swedish, and looking like they have recently arrived from a fantasy world, they have taken enthusiasts of both metal and folk music by storm. Grimner’s lyrics revolve around Norse mythology, folklore, historical adventures of Vikings and life in the same era. With some songs dark and brooding; others fast, jovial and folkish, Grimner’s music is as awesome as it is entertaining.

Ted – Vocals & Lead Guitar / Martin – Vocals & Rhythm Guitar / David – Bass Guitar / Kristoffer – Keyboards
Johan – Flutes, Mandola, Bagpipes / Henry – Drums

More About Grimner

In 2008, Grimner was put together in the Swedish town Motala by lead guitarist and vocalist Ted together with the drummer Henry.
The first demo ‘A Call for Battle’ (2010) was sung exclusively in English but was soon to be replaced by their native tongue Swedish. As time progressed and new records being released (EP ‘Färd’ (2012), acoustic EP ‘De Kom Från Norr’ (2015), full-length album ‘Blodshymner’ (2014)) Grimner has steadily made a name for themselves, including being picked as main support for the legendary Korpiklaani during their shows in Sweden in 2015.
In 2016 Grimner released their praised album ‘Frost Mot Eld’ (Despotz Records), an album that brought a totally new sound to the scene. The album received outstanding reviews world-wide, with songs that to this date have reached millions of streams. With the album and their fantastic overall concept, Grimner has been invited to perform at festival stages around Europe.

Grimner live in Benelux:

English:

It was an open question whether the thundering grandness of ’Titan’ could ever be surpassed. If there is one album we might consider as prototype of extreme metal versus proper classical music, then Septicflesh is your band. Well, ‘Codex Omega’ continues this tradition and we can state that the overwhelming multilayered heaviness and skillfulness is equaled on the new album.

It means that you have to be patient and build up a recognition factor with the music, since loads of things are coming your way. Indeed, dear readers, extreme metal is sometimes more complex than prog, you better believe me. Anyways, with Septicflesh that does not feel as a laborious job, but as multilateral music we enjoy to dig deeper in. We dive into the theme of the third testament, the codex omega which implicates a kind of end, and discover step by step the charms of this album. It was recorded in three different studios (firstly the foundation in Greece, then the orchestration in Czech Republic and finally in Sweden where mix and mastering was done by Jens Bogren). Obviously vocalist/bassist Seth once again designed the artwork and we hear massive choirs all over and any guest musicians on oud and duduk. The brothers Antoniou, together with Sotiris and new (Polish) drummer Krimh did not skate on thin ice when crafting this tenth feat. They surely made it a memorable one.

With ‘Dante’s Inferno’ we are submerged in the Hellenic world of Septicflesh’s eschatology. After a calm piano intro with strings they cut loose with sturdy riffs and juicy grunts of Seth. This impressive entry is regaled with massive choirs a bit later. Ultra tight they continue with ‘3rd Testament (Codex Omega)’ with its dramatic melodies. In ‘Portrait Of A Headless Man’ we hear duduk and this ethnic instrument has – in the part towards the end – the nearest approach to human vocals. But above all, it is a heavy extreme song with any gothic accessibility from time to time. Same thing we experience in the single ‘Enemy Of Truth’, loads of choirs again. A highlight is the rather slow paced, yet captivating ‘Dark Art’. It includes a magnificent interaction between clean vocals of Sotiris V and the low-ranged growls of Seth. In the following songs, these contrasting clean vocals are the icing on the cake as well, while the mid-paced ‘Trinity’ begins with acoustic guitar, it includes any gothic influences, but it turns into another thundering manifest of these masters of symphonic death metal. Those who are not familiar with these echelons, hailing from Mediterranean areas, but have a soft spot for Behemoth or Fleshgod Apocalypse, are invited to check out ‘Codex Omega’, that’s for sure. This is – as they sing – ‘dark art’ of top notch quality.

Nederlands:

English:

Switzerland has a tradition of good rock bands and Kill The Unicorn confirm that statement. Their music is very brutal, has harsh vocals and is stuffed with grooving rhythms and time changes. This is their first full CD – they recorded a 3-track demo in 2014 – and it shows a very mature sounding band. Their songs are not just one monolithic noise and mayhem, but these guys put a lot of thought in their pieces and that makes them an interesting listen. Look at the titles of the songs and you know that this is not just another band! A special mention will be given to the very original and funny artwork. If their were lists for the best artwork of the year, this one would surely be on it!

Nederlands:

English:

This Finnish folk/pagan/death metal horde needs no introduction anymore. Since more than twenty years, they are one of the most active and enthusiastic representatives of that genre. Ensiferum is a pre-eminently live band. They already kept that in mind during the recordings of ‘One Man Army’ and that is even more noticeable when listening to album number seven ‘Two Paths’, which was recorded at the Astia Studios with producer Anssi Kippo, just like its predecessor.

In between two atmospheric intermezzos with Finnish titles at the beginning and the end of the record, one can find nine new tracks which are – without exception – exciting, battle-like and inviting to sing along. You might say: more of the same, but this would be lack of justice due to the strong impact of the compositions. Within their well-known niche, it is crafted in such an ingenious manner that you are soon, after few spins, led away into the glorious world of these sturdy guys and girl. Netta Skog happens to be recruited as permanent member after the definitive departure of keyboard player Emmi and it speaks for itself that we can hear more accordion in the songs. Also vocal-wise Netta contributed, more precisely in the party-like ‘Feast With Valkyries’ and the sensitive part in ‘I Will Never Kneel’.

The record opens right away with a stunner. ‘For Those About To Fight For Metal’ appears to be a hymn for the fans and can be described as AC/DC meets Ensiferum in lyrics and guitar skills. Amazing! Harmony chants, choirs and some orchestration are often heard in the catchy songs. Petri Lindroos’ raspy death growl is recognizable out of thousands, but a lot of (semi) clean vocals of bassist Sami Hinkka (and Markus) can be spotted as well. A sure-fire interaction between both vocal styles we can hear in the title track, a top notch song with fervent guitar- and accordion solos plus a violin outro. The idiosyncratic choppy rhythms in ‘King Of Storms’ are a bit in the vein of Finntroll (mark the barbarian hoarse vocals), while ‘Don’t You Say’ is a bit too light for the undersigned, but live it will be a blast. We rather hear the sturdy ‘I Will Never Kneel’ or the elated ‘God Is Dead’. Yet the real highlight of ‘Two Paths’ happens to be ‘Hail To The Victor’. Here Ensiferum gets really epic and captivating! Thus we have less adventurous, lengthy tracks on this album, but on the other hand Ensiferum has created their catchiest and most accessible album to date. A guarantee for success!

Nederlands:

Spetterend! Wij kiezen eerder voor het stoere ‘I Will Never Kneel’ of het uitgelaten ‘God Is Dead’. Succes verzekerd!
